unbeknownst to me at the time (as it was not part of my reading/writing high school courses, introduced by teachers, nor adapted from friends doing the same), i created a commonplace book. i collaged its cover with magazine ads and article photographs. i copied and illuminated song lyrics and poetry, 
which ranged from marianne moore, john donne, stephen crane (war is kind), to paul simon, and lawrence ferlinghetti. and if i’d known about him at the time, no doubt rimbaud’s lluminations would have been a part of my commonplace book, too.
